The Return of Jadebottle (Part 3) Australia

June 2011 Australia (Melbourne & Sydney)

Day 1: I embarked on a trip to Australia with Mich. We took the British Airways and reached Sydney, we took tiger airways and reached Melborne in the morning. We took a skybus from Melbourne to make our way to the city. As we waiting for Mich's cousin, Jack, we left our luggage in the bus terminal to wait till he knock off from work in the city. There are lockers there to keep our big luggage safely in while we walked around Melbourne.

The streets in the city of Melbourne.
We used the map to find a rental car company and found Thrifty Car Rental. We rented a car to drive for the next few days.

Day 2 started with the both of us preparing sandwiches...Food in Australia is not cheap, a bowl of noodles that is one third than what i usually eat cost almost 10 dollars.

After all the sandwich making, we are on our way to Philips island!

The drive towards Philips Island take hours, with Mich on the wheel and i the map reader. We managed to reach the place around late afternoon at 2pm. Along the way, the beautiful grasslands, and the refreshing sea waves are images that we will never forget. The wind is cold and chilling and be prepared to bring enough clothing.

Along the way, you will see signs like that, telling you that you might meet a kangaroo, i did not see any and i hope they do not jump out suddenly while driving too.

The penguins will start to head for the beach around sun set, and we are not allowed to take pictures as we were told the fairy penguins were be scared. After viewing the penguin parade, it was already dark, we headed back to Melbourne and checked for penguins!
It was a really exciting drive back for two gals. The roads back are dark and we depended on the not so informative map to find our way back. We stopped by petrol stations to ask the way. Along the way, we stop by a small town for dinner, it was nearly 8pm and the cafes are closing. The streets are also dark and there is no one along the streets in the town. We bought fish and chips and ate our dinner in the car.

Mind you folks, we had a dramatic experience in the car. At that time, our windows are winded down and I finished my dinner and went to the back seat to search for a bottle of water. Mich asked me suddenly in a low voice," is that a gun?" I looked at this man outside the car who was holding something in his hand that was shaped like a pistol and he put into his pocket at that moment. He keep staring at the cafe beside our car where we bought our fish and chips. He did not notice there were two gals in the car as our wind screen were quite fogged up. Mich wind up the window, and quickly we drove off, with me still in the back seat!!!
We droved till we are rather far from the town, and then i climbed into the front seat. We both heaved a sign of relief. We do not know that that man wants, but we know, if we were to be discovered, i think we will be robbed first and maybe even raped...Cos we are definitely easier targets than the people in the cafe.

Day 3 started with a trip to the Yarra Valley.  We went for fine dining experience with Jack who drove us there. We get to sample different kinds of red wine and white wine too. After that, we headed back to watch movies. Movie tickets over there are much more pricey.

Day 4 started with a trip in the morning to Dandenongs. We went to a little cafe there. I seriously feel, Melbourne is a place where people really know how to chill and relax. After that, we went to take a view of the sun set.

Day 5: We started on a trip to find the 12 Apostles. As we had returned our car by then, we took a land tour and went up to the Great Ocean Road. Furthermore, we heard of stories that the roads are winding and dangerous so we decided not to drive there ourselves.

The day starts with a beautiful rainbow

The scenic view along the Great Ocean Road

Can you find 12 Apostles?

We met up at night with Mich's friend and walked around the cities of Sydney before heading back to prepare for our flight back to Sydney.

Day 6: We took a morning domestic flight via tiger airways to Sydney. At that time, flight was delayed as there was mist and we only reach Sydney like 4 hours past my scheduled time. In the end, i met with my cousin abit later, who brought us for some nice dim sum in the city. Thereafter, we went around the city ourselves, renting another car from Europcar before meeting my cousin and cousin in law for dinner and heading back to her place.
Sydney film festival

Day 7: Our tour in Sydney starts today. First we went to the Sydney aquarium. The aquarium is very near to the Cockle Bay Wharf and one get to see interesting sea creatures. The one that got me interested is the Dugong....the supposing mermaid that people saw in the past.

So cute right!!!

 Colourful fishes!!!

Bird Eye view of Harbor Bridge

Sydney Opera House

Day 8: We started driving to Port Stephens to get away from the busy Sydney life. Along the way, we stopped by wineries and tasted them along the way. We stayed in a very family style motor inn and the hosts were really warm. Their dog on the left is friendly too!

Our motor inn we stayed in.

Day 9: We wanted to try some sand dunes ride but due to the bad weather we were not allowed to. This is the sand dunes area where we were supposed to have our activities. Thereafter we made our way back to Sydney to rest before our trip to the blue mountains the next day.

Day 10: We woke up early for our Blue mountain trip. Driving up is interesting.

Can you see the 3 sisters up there?

I know we are being very adventurous but after the trip up to Blue Mountains, we went to the Jenolan caves. The trip up is like a mountainous region, very exciting and dangerous, with lots of winding roads. To add to the excitement, it was raining too when we were driving up. Some roads are so narrow, we have to be extremely careful.

Cave toilets
We reach Jenolan Caves area

Before entering the cave

The lime stone formations

The River cave with 1298 steps takes us 2 hrs to complete. There are still pools of the underground River Styx which display stunning reflections of great beauty. 3 of Jenolan's largest crystal formations are in the cave.

Day 11: We went to the Taronga Zoo where we find Koala Bears and Kangaroos sleeping. It is very easy to get to Taronga Zoo, just go to the pier to get a ferry ticket and off you go!

Cheeky monkeys scratching away...

After the zoo trip, we went to stay at a hotel in city instead so that we can check out the nightspots in Sydney. I realise, there seemed to be alot of alarm sirens at night, either police or ambulance. We walked to the Chinatown area and realised that the place is pretty scary. There was this instance when we were walking and we saw 3 able bodied man all in black walking behind us. They looked like mafias and the kind i would see in the Hongkong action dramas!!!

Day 12 We ended the trip by shopping around the wharf area and eating pancakes and then taking a airport shuttle to the Sydney airport!
There goes the end of my Australia holiday!
