Kindness bestowed

Today, i was out at city hall area and i almost witness an accident.

I was along Hill Street outside Armenian Church waiting for a bus to go home so that i can quickly hide myself in my shades after doing some millia seeds removal treatment. It was about 5pm and at that time bus33 came by, there was an old chinese uncle about 70 plus who was standing quite near the edge of the bus stop. I do not think the bus driver drove very fast but i think somehow the force from the bus arriving caused the uncle to lose his balance and fall. He fell near the back door of the bus and half his body was under the bus!

I was like "OMG"!!! If the bus had carried on driving, the uncle would have been crushed under the back tyres! Fortunately, the bus stopped, and there were people at the bus stop who went immediately to help the poor uncle who seemed also in a state of shock. Two guys came by to help, tried to carry him up from the ground and one took his slippers for him which fall off at the side of the road. While helping, the "dumb" driver opened the back door of the bus and it almost hit the two guys and the uncle too! One of the guys, this young malay chap was so angry he came to the front and scolded the driver, i think he was reprimanding him for driving so fast and that he should have slowed down when he see the old uncle. Furthermore, they were trying to help the old uncle stand up, and yet this driver still open the back door. The driver talked to him in malay, and he seemed remorseful too. So apparently, the young chap stopped lecturing him and they helped the old uncle up the bus. The driver in the bus helped to clean up his leg and i believe he also asked the uncle if he is ok. The young chap went to the bus behind and told the bus driver to overtake bus 33 cos the driver need to attend to the uncle.

What did i see out of this whole drama?
1. It may be just a small drama but all these while, i looked at the two guys with utmost respect, especially the young malay chap. He looked fierce with some tatoos on his arms and my first impression of him, is someone i would not want to deal with or talk to. However his strong sense of justice amazes me, he is brave to come out and reprimand the wrongdoers, something that alot of youngsters nowadays would not dare to do so. I can conclude looks are definitely deceiving. Maybe those well dressed and decent looking ones would be those who would not even lend a helping hand.

2. I see harmony among the races. Something that it should be encouraged. As long as any elderly needs help, regardless of race, we should always render help to them, isn't it? I overheard the chap telling this other indian uncle, that uncle very old already, fall until like that...

3. I feel that there is 人情味 in Singapore. I have received comments that many of our people are pretty selfish, and only care about themselves but no, it is not. It is just that people love to talk about the negative things that are happening. Shouldn't we talk more about the good and kind things that are happening around us instead? Kindness starts from us, isn't it?

After this minor incident, i am also constantly reminding myself, not to be affected by societal changes, (people tend to enjoy negative stories),and to always share positive happenings everywhere!
