A real Phone Scam! Beware!

I have never expected such things to happen to me but yes phone scams are real!

It all happened on Sunday night when my mum received a call on her hp from China.
(Translated from chinese)

"Uncle": long time no see. Still remember who i am?
Mum: huh who? ( thinking hard...)
"Uncle": your relative from China
Mum: ohhh cousin in law ah...
"Uncle": ya la! How are you? Everybody here has been missing u all...etc etc
......I be coming to Singapore tomorrow with a friend, message you the details later
Mum: ok, u message my daughter the details, I ll ask her to accompany me to fetch you tomorrow. Here is her number 9.......

So, strangely I received this msg on Sunday night...

I called my mum to ask what happened and without thinking much, agreed on the errand.

I even have to reject my brother's request to fetch him from the airport at 7pm because i gotta fetch the two "uncles". I even took the whole morning to clean up my room in case they are staying over and i might have to give mine up. My dad even suggested to arrange to find hotel room for them!

So in the evening at 537pm,  my mum and i reached terminal 3 and waited. The plane landed and the luggages were just unloaded on belt 44...we waited there trying to find the uncle.
At that time, there were afew questions on my mind
1. Why is he coming with his friend? Why didn't he bring his wife?
2. Why is it so last minute?
3. What are they here for?

We waited all the way till 615, getting worried, i called the uncle using my skype credit
( its expensive to call overseas number) he did not pick up. 15minutes later, i called using my mobile line, he picked up and said to my mum he run into some problems.

He said," i have some problems now, i got caught by the police last night, my friend and i went to look for (小妹 in other words, hostess or escorts ) last night and so suay, the police raided the place, i can only be released on 1k bail. Do you think you can help me, transfer to the account number of the guangzhou police? Dun tell your cousin, this kind of thing i dun wan them to know..."

The above was told to me by my mum who was on the phone. At that time, I just felt something was amiss and kept giving the facial expression to end this overseas call quick
(very ex to call overseas!!!)

My mum saw my expression who knows that something is wrong too, told him that she does not know how to do transfers.
Apparently he mentioned for her daughter to do it (n thats me), i shake my head vigorously...
she said i also don't know and told him the phone has some problems, will call him back and quickly hang up the hp after freaking 6mins!

First, i am disgusted! If you are really my uncle, you should not be out looking for other women, leaving your wife and children at home. Ask me to use $ to bail you out?
Dream on!!!

Secondly, the family knows people in the police force so there is no need to ask us to help transfer 1k over when i am very sure the people they know are powerful enough to help them.

Thirdly, my impression of the uncle is an upright and righteous man. I cannot believe he would do such things!!!

In the end, we went to fetch my brother and i told my mum to call the family at night around 9ish just to confirm my suspicions. Anyway if he is really caught, the family should be the first to know and help him instead.

My mum called the family at their home and they told her everyone is at home and the uncle is having a flu so he is resting in bed!!!

This whole episode is a waste of my 2 hours car park charges at T3, waste of my 6min plus overseas telephone bill and a waste of my precious time!

Reflections

I feel disgusted, that person has my number, but i have his too. I wanted to make a report but my mum says forget it, he did not try anything funny anymore, give him a chance to repent. Furthermore, he did not succeed in his trick.

And after this whole episode, for all those with old folks or if you do have relatives overseas, just be careful of such overseas call, especially for those who keep asking you if you remember who they are...my mum reveals the details of our relatives from here
Mum: ohhh cousin in law ah...

so the fake uncle knowing that we do have such relatives disguised as him this way.
No matter what, act blur, do not reveal anything and get them to say their actual name, if they cannot say the name or keep changing topic, you know something is wrong. It is time to educate the older folks at home!
